How do I get started?

Create a space for a course or subject, then add your material: upload a PDF, Word document or slide deck, paste a YouTube or web link, paste text, or record a lecture. From there you can make a summary, notes, flashcards, a quiz, a mock exam, a mind map, a study plan or a tutorial (and a podcast on Pro and Max), and ask Skolar, the AI tutor, about any of it.

What can I upload?

Documents: PDF, Word (DOC, DOCX), PowerPoint (PPT, PPTX), plain text (TXT), Markdown (MD) and LaTeX (TEX). Scanned PDFs are read with OCR. You can also add YouTube videos that have captions, web pages by link, pasted text and audio recordings, or record a lecture live. Video files can't be uploaded; add a lecture video by its YouTube link instead. File size and video length depend on your plan, from 10 MB per document and 30 minutes of YouTube on Free up to 500 MB and 8 hours on Max.

Why won't my PDF open?

Usually a browser extension is catching the file before the page can show it. Download managers such as Internet Download Manager (IDM) take over PDFs, and some blockers stop them. Pause the extension for Skolight, or add app.skolight.com to its exceptions (in IDM: Options → File types → "Don't start downloading automatically from the following sites"), then press Try again. If the file still won't open, check your connection, then email support.

Can Skolight record my lectures?

Yes. Record a lecture in your browser and the transcript appears as the lecturer speaks, in sessions of up to 90 minutes. Live transcription supports English-language lectures. The transcript is saved to your space, ready for notes, flashcards or a quiz. Every plan includes transcription time each month, from 30 minutes on Free to 20 hours on Max.

What is Skolar and how do I use it?

Skolar is the AI tutor built into Skolight. Open it from the Chat item in any space, or from the Skolar panel docked beside most pages. It answers from your own materials, with numbered citations you can open to see the source. You can @-mention a document or note, attach up to 5 images or files, pick a mode (Explain, Solve, Quiz and more, or leave it on Auto) and ask it to make a quiz, flashcards, a mind map, notes or a study plan right from the chat. It can also draw graphs. Skolar doesn't search the web; it works from the material you give it.

How do quizzes and mock exams work?

In a space, open Quizzes & exams and choose Create quiz or Create mock exam. A quiz has 1 to 30 questions at easy, medium or hard, mixing multiple choice, multi-answer, true/false and fill-in-the-blank, with an optional timer, and answers come with explanations. A mock exam runs on a timed clock you can pause, saves as you go and lets you flag questions. At the end you get a write-up of your strengths, weak points and what to do next, and you can retake it or turn your misses into a study plan.

How do flashcards and spaced repetition work?

Skolight writes flashcards from your material, then schedules them with spaced repetition. Grade each card Again, Hard, Good or Easy (keys 1 to 4) and it comes back just before you would forget it. You can review the cards that are due, the whole deck, or only the ones you missed.

What is a tutorial?

A tutorial is a short course built from your material: sections and lessons with quick quizzes along the way, at a Concise, Standard or In-depth level. Lessons are illustrated with real YouTube videos, images and articles found with Google Search.

Can Skolight turn my material into a podcast?

Accepted Answer

On Pro and Max, yes. Two AI hosts, Alex and Sam, talk through your material as a Deep dive, Brief, Critique or Debate episode, shorter or longer, with an optional focus. Episode time each month: 1 hour on Pro and 3 hours on Max. On Max you can also Join the conversation: interrupt the hosts by voice or text, they answer from your material, and the rest of the episode adapts to your question (up to 10 minutes per call, 1 hour a month).

Can Skolight help me plan my studying?

Yes. A study plan works back from a deadline into 1 to 20 milestones, paced to the minutes a day you have and skipping the weekdays or busy days you choose. Anyone can make study plans, Free included. From Starter up, the calendar shows your plans, tasks, events and exam dates by day, week or month, with repeating tasks and a roadmap view. For the studying itself there's a Pomodoro timer on every plan. Skolight doesn't sync with Google Calendar or other external calendars.

What are spaces and groups?

A space holds one course or subject: its materials, notes, decks, quizzes, plans and study sessions. Free includes 1 space; Starter and up have no limit. A group is for studying with others: a group chat with mentions, reactions and attachments, a shared calendar and task board, and spaces you link with view or edit rights. Anyone can join a group they're invited to, Free included; starting one needs Starter or above.

Can I export or share my work?

Yes. Notes export as HTML, PDF, an image, Markdown or a Word document, and mind maps as PNG or PDF. You can also share a public link to a note, a chat or a group.

Is there a phone app?

Accepted Answer

Skolight has its own phone layout, built for a small screen rather than shrunk from the desktop. Open it in your phone's browser and add it to your home screen to use it like an app. It needs an internet connection; there's no offline mode.

Question 14

Is my material used to train AI?

Accepted Answer

No. We don't use your study content to train our own models, and we work with AI providers under their business terms, sending content only to make what you asked for. Your files are encrypted at rest, and deleting your account deletes your study data. The Privacy Policy has the details.

Question 15

How do I upgrade, change my plan, or buy credits?

Accepted Answer

Open Settings → Subscription to upgrade, switch plans, buy top-up words or manage billing. Upgrades apply straight away. To move to a lower plan, cancel first (you keep your plan until the period ends), then choose the lower one. The plans differ in daily AI words, how many quizzes and flashcard sets you can make each day, storage, file size and YouTube length, and the tools included: the calendar from Starter, podcasts from Pro, and talking with the podcast hosts on Max.

Why am I hitting a daily limit?

Each plan has a daily allowance of AI words, and every study aid you generate (a summary, notes, quiz, mock exam, mind map, study plan, tutorial or podcast) also counts toward a daily number of generations; flashcard sets have their own count. All three reset at midnight UTC. Free includes 1,500 AI words a day and Pro 20,000. When you run out, wait for the reset, buy a top-up pack in Settings → Subscription, or upgrade.

Question 17

How do I manage my account or delete my data?

Accepted Answer

Your profile and signed-in devices are under Settings → Profile, and the accounts you sign in with under Settings → Integrations. Settings → Privacy & data lets you download a copy of everything you've made, or delete your account and all your study data for good. Deleting can't be undone.
