Privacy Policy

Overview

Skolight is a study app that turns your materials into notes, flashcards, mock exams, and AI tutoring. This policy explains what we collect, why, and the choices you have. We aim to collect only what we need to run the service.

Information we collect

Information you provide

• Account details: your name, email address, and profile picture, which Google shares when you sign in (see Signing in with Google below).
• Study content: the files, links, recordings, notes, flashcards, and other materials you upload or create.
• Messages you send us, such as support or contact-form requests.

Information collected automatically

• Usage data needed to enforce plan limits, such as daily AI words and imports.
• Basic technical data (e.g. browser type and approximate region) used to keep the service secure and reliable.

Counting visits to our website

When you visit our public pages or the sign-up page without being signed in, we count the visit so we can see how many people come, where they come from, and how many sign up. We do this on our own systems, without cookies and without sharing it with an analytics company. We record the steps you reached, the page you arrived on, the website or campaign that sent you (the site's name only, not the full address), your device type, and your country. To avoid counting you twice in a day, we combine your IP address and browser details into a scrambled code that changes every day. We don't store your IP address, and we don't link any of this to your account. We delete these records after 180 days. Choosing Decline in the cookie banner, or sending a Global Privacy Control signal, turns this off.

We do not sell your personal information.

Signing in with Google

You sign in to Skolight with your Google account. When you do, Google shares your name, email address, and profile picture with us, along with an identifier for your Google account and the sign-in tokens it issues. We never see your Google password, and we ask Google for nothing beyond this basic profile - not your email inbox, files, contacts, or calendar.

• Use: we use this information to create your account, sign you in, and show your name and picture in the app. We keep our own copy of your profile picture so it loads without contacting Google.
• Storage: it is kept with your account for as long as the account exists, and deleted when you delete your account.
• Sharing: we don't sell it or use it for advertising, and we share it only with the service providers listed below, which run Skolight for us.
• Your control: you can remove Skolight's access at any time from your Google Account's third-party connections. That doesn't delete your Skolight account - Google will ask you to allow access again the next time you sign in. To delete your account, use Settings → Privacy & data.

If you created your account with an email address and password before we moved to Google sign-in, we still hold that password only as a secure hash. It can no longer be used to sign in, and it is deleted along with your account.

How we use your information

• To provide the core features - generating notes, flashcards, quizzes, exams, and tutor answers from your materials.
• To operate your account, enforce plan allowances, and process payments.
• To send transactional emails (sign-in alerts, email address change confirmations, billing, and account notices).
• To respond to your support requests.
• To keep Skolight secure, debug issues, and improve the product.

AI processing of your content

To generate notes, flashcards, exams, and tutor responses, Skolight sends the relevant parts of your content to third-party AI providers that run the underlying models. This processing happens to produce your results.

We do not use your study content to train our own models. We work with AI providers under their business/API terms rather than consumer terms, and we send content only to generate the output you ask for.

Service providers we share data with

We share data with a small set of vendors strictly to operate Skolight. Each processes data on our behalf:

• Google, to sign you in (see Signing in with Google above).
• Payment processing and subscription management (so we never store your full card details).
• Transactional email delivery for account and billing messages.
• AI model providers that generate your notes, flashcards, exams, and tutor answers.
• Cloud hosting and storage for the application and your files.

Data retention and deletion

We keep your data for as long as your account is active. You can delete individual items at any time, and you can permanently delete your entire account and all associated study data from Settings → Privacy & data. Account deletion cannot be undone.

After deletion we remove your data from active systems; residual copies may persist briefly in encrypted backups before they expire on their normal cycle.

How we protect your data

Your files are encrypted at rest and transmitted over encrypted connections. Access to production systems is restricted. You sign in through Google, so Skolight never handles your password - and turning on 2-Step Verification in your Google account adds a second step to every sign-in. No method of storage or transmission is perfectly secure, but we work to protect your information using industry-standard safeguards.

Your rights and choices

Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, export, or delete your personal data, and to object to or restrict certain processing. You can exercise most of these directly in Settings, or by contacting us.

Children's privacy

Skolight is intended for learners aged 13 and over. If you are under the age required by your country to consent to online services, please use Skolight only with the involvement of a parent, guardian, or school.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as Skolight evolves. When we make material changes, we will update the date above and, where appropriate, notify you.
