Your study materials are yours. This policy explains what we collect, how we use it, and the control you have over your data.
Overview
Skolight is a study app that turns your materials into notes, flashcards, mock exams, and AI tutoring. This policy explains what we collect, why, and the choices you have. We aim to collect only what we need to run the service.
Information we collect
Information you provide
- Account details: your name, email address, and password (stored only as a secure hash).
- Study content: the files, links, recordings, notes, flashcards, and other materials you upload or create.
- Messages you send us, such as support or contact-form requests.
Information collected automatically
- Usage data needed to enforce plan limits, such as daily AI words and imports.
- Basic technical data (e.g. browser type and approximate region) used to keep the service secure and reliable.
We do not sell your personal information.
How we use your information
- To provide the core features — generating notes, flashcards, quizzes, exams, and tutor answers from your materials.
- To operate your account, enforce plan allowances, and process payments.
- To send transactional emails (verification, password resets, billing, and account notices).
- To respond to your support requests.
- To keep Skolight secure, debug issues, and improve the product.
AI processing of your content
To generate notes, flashcards, exams, and tutor responses, Skolight sends the relevant parts of your content to third-party AI providers that run the underlying models. This processing happens to produce your results.
We do not use your study content to train our own models. We work with AI providers under their business/API terms rather than consumer terms, and we send content only to generate the output you ask for.
Service providers we share data with
We share data with a small set of vendors strictly to operate Skolight. Each processes data on our behalf:
- Payment processing and subscription management (so we never store your full card details).
- Transactional email delivery for account and billing messages.
- AI model providers that generate your notes, flashcards, exams, and tutor answers.
- Cloud hosting and storage for the application and your files.
Data retention and deletion
We keep your data for as long as your account is active. You can delete individual items at any time, and you can permanently delete your entire account and all associated study data from Settings → Security. Account deletion cannot be undone.
After deletion we remove your data from active systems; residual copies may persist briefly in encrypted backups before they expire on their normal cycle.
How we protect your data
Your files are encrypted at rest and transmitted over encrypted connections. Access to production systems is restricted. No method of storage or transmission is perfectly secure, but we work to protect your information using industry-standard safeguards.
Your rights and choices
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, export, or delete your personal data, and to object to or restrict certain processing. You can exercise most of these directly in Settings, or by contacting us.
Children's privacy
Skolight is intended for learners aged 13 and over. If you are under the age required by your country to consent to online services, please use Skolight only with the involvement of a parent, guardian, or school.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as Skolight evolves. When we make material changes, we will update the date above and, where appropriate, notify you.
